Animal Health

StockCARE® incorporates a preventive animal health programme with a focus on helping farmers understand the diseases that may be affecting the livestock on their farm.

Each farm has its own comprehensive annual Management Plan which includes a preventive animal health plan. The plan is reviewed each year in conjunction with the StockCARE® Veterinarian.

During the first year, the programme will conduct a comprehensive investigation of a farm's animal health status by initiating:

  • A review of that farm's critical indicators of disease - body condition, growth rates, death rates, reproductive performance and lamb survival
  • A review of previously identified disease problems and diagnostic tests of existing conditions
  • Monitoring parasitism levels and basing treatments on the results of the test combined with other factors monitored by the programme
  • Tests to determine the trace element status of the flock
  • A rigorously conducted investigation of a selected representative sample of lambs that die within 48 hours of birth
  • An assessment of known disease risk factors
  • A carefully planned vaccination, parasite control and animal health programme
  • Minimisation of the unsubstantiated use of mineral supplements, antibiotics, pesticides, hormones and fertility drugs
